Neotype Fonts

Neotype (2026) began as a college lettering project in 1976 when I was 20 years old. It was my first attempt at designing a typeface and is what made me fall in love with type design. Fifty years later, I picked up where I left off and finished it as a full-featured digital type family. It’s a geometric sans serif display face with a unicase design, modeled on uncial script, the origin of our modern lowercase letters. The result is a design that, in today’s world, feels retro-futuristic. In effect, it’s a revival of an unreleased 1970s techno typeface and would feel right at home in a science fiction or high-tech context. Although it’s meant for display use, it also works as an unconventional choice for text. It comes in six weights or as a variable font and includes many alternate characters and custom dingbats.
